I'd
like to talk about pasture spraying for Canadian thistle
management. I've watched this for many years. Some people spray once every 5 years, or when they get a letter from the county weed board. When I was on the board many people got letters every spring and most went out and did something and the next year did something again, But if they had an old established infestation, they wasted their time and their money. Spraying once a year every year for Canadian thistle is a waste of time, labor and money. Those that only spray once every 5 years aren't serious about getting rid of their problem. If the weed boards in this state were serious about eradicating these noxious weeds they would push to have people spray spring and fall of the same year and do a follow up the next late June. 1st weed season is spring, next weed season is fall, But there has to be a third follow up the next late spring early summer. If you are not following a managed program of seeing to it that these three steps are taken by landowners, everyone is wasting a lot of time, labor, tax money and the noxious weeds are not diminishing very fast. I have taken care of two townships in this county for 5-6 years. If the landowners had taken care of their infestations bordering the township roads, these townships would be noxious weed free. As it is they have been reduced drastically. I will show the results of a Township I wish I could have done the same amount of miles each year, but because of conditions beyond my control it was not possible. |
