This
page will show how following a plan how much money can be
saved. The first example we will call Township A. The rate used was 1.5 qt per acrea Amine The total chemical used in A in the spring of 2000 was 15.75 gal of Amine 20.5 miles were spot sprayed which comes to 1.3 qts per mile In the fall the first follow up a rate of 1 qt per Acre Amine/1 pint per acre Tordon was used. Only 17.5 miles were spot sprayed. 26qts of Amine were used =1.49 qts per mile 13qts of Tordon were used=.74 qts per mile 2nd followup spring of 2001 Again spot sprayed. 15.75 gal of Amine used at the rate or 1.5 qt per acre 20.5 miles==1.3 qts per acre 3rd follow up Fall of 2001 Traveled , checked and spot sprayed 32 miles used 2.69 gal of Amine=.34 qt per mile used 1.35 gal or Tordon=.17 qt per mile RESULTS A SAVINGS of 1.15 qts. per mile of Amine A SAVINGS of .17 qts per mile Tordon I have continued to spot spray once a year since, because neighboring landowners have not cleaned up their infestations or people hauling hay that was harvested after noxious weeds have gone to seed, keep re-infesting townships roads. IF I SPRAY ONCE A YEAR IN THE SPRING I USE 2,4D at the rate of 1.5 qts per acrea (4lb) If I spray once a year in the fall I use different applications. 1.5 qts per acre 2,4-D 1 qt Amine /1 pt Tordon or 1 qt per A Tordon ( mostly for Mullien & Canadian thistles) Why do I fall spray instead of spring spray. It's a time factor for me. Some years I have spring sprayed instead. Some bad spots I do both. These figures show that if you follow a plan of spraying once in the spring, follow up once in the fall, follow up once again late spring early summer and recheck once more that fall, you can cut your chemical costs drastically and reduce your infestations tremendously. If you are spraying private land not adjoining anyone else you can expect total eradication with 1 spraying and 2 follow ups, provided your timing and rate is right. Haying and harvest equipment moving is what spreads seed along the roads. Bales loaded with seed transported, drop seeds everywhere |
