Absinth Wormwood is a hard
plant
to get rid of but relatively easy to kill, I have found. It must make a lot of seeds that blow easily, because I'm always finding scattered plants. I think birds do a great job of spreading them also. It needs to be sprayed early before it bolts. The pictures on the home page show lush growth of Absinth wormwood. I like to spray about Mid May to the 1st of June. 2,4-D Ester is my choice of chemical. Absinth wormwood is a woody plant and the Ester works better than the Amine. I prefer the 1.5 qt per acre of 4# or 1 qt per acre LV-6 In areas that may be a problem because of possible vapor drift to other sensitive plants (trees) I then use the Amine. Spraying in May, few susceptible crops have emerged or even been planted.. Those I miss in the spring I then mow during the summer, and follow up when I have good lush growth with a mixture of 1.5 qt 2,4-D/1 pint Tordon. Then the following spring spot spray any new seedlings with 1.5 qt per area 2,4-D Ester. One of the most important factors in eradicating Noxious weeds is the FOLLOW UP. Too many people spray one time and think they got them all. They may come back and look the following season..too early.. and not seeing anything and forget about it. If you spray only one season that plant may come back, but being weakened it will take longer to come back. Rule of thumb FOLLOW UP two times, if only to check. Example: Spray in the spring. Follow up in the fall, follow up again the next season, late spring or early summer. Note. Not all plants germinate at the same time. Some you have sprayed in May. It looked like you got a good kill. Mid June along comes a rain and seed laying there sprouts. July a rain comes along and more seed may sprout. If you don't go back in the fall and follow up these plants made more seed. Failure to go back the following spring, more seeds laying in the ground may have started a new infestations. Follow up, follow up, two times with all species of plants. Put that in your written plan, mark it on your calendar to go back and check.
