MANAGEMENT MANUAL Vol. 1:
Issue 1 |
My Name is Kenny Konechne. I'm from Kimball South Dakota. I am no longer a member of a weed board. I am a privately licensed sprayer. I am seeing positive results from my work in eradicating noxious weeds. My intention is to help others through my knowledge and experience, to over come their noxious weed infestations. I'm talking eradication, not just controlling them Spraying year after year becomes a tedious job and a great expense. Like any other venture it takes good management to be successful. So lets talk about Good Management. The 1st thing you need is THE RIGHT ATTITUDE. In any venture success is 99% attitude. I've heard many people make the statement " I've sprayed that patch of weeds for 5 years and they are still there. You cant get rid of them". One of the common definitions of insanity is" doing the same thing the same way over and over and expecting a different result". Myself, after two years I'd question what I was doing wrong. What I probably would find was that I was using the wrong chemical or my timing was off. You have to get the attitude you can get rid of the problem or your wasting your time and money even trying. Then take the next step and educate yourself on how to get the job done right, the first time. ************************************************************************* 2nd A WRITTEN PLAN If you go to a bank to borrow money for your farming operation they want to know what your plan is. They want to know your assets and your estimated expenses and your guestimated income. They want you to follow a written plan . Good managers write out a plan and then follow it. For eradication of noxious weeds you will need a minimal 2 - 4 year plan depending on the size of your operation and manpower. ************************************************************************ 3rd KNOWLEDGE OF YOUR TARGETED PEST. If your a coach of a basketball or football team, the more you know about your opponents habits the better your chances of winning are. Realize this, every plant is different. What works for one may not work for the other. If you're a livestock producer, do you feed the same ration to cattle as you do to hogs or sheep? No, you don't, because each animal is different and has a different structure. The plumbing system by which nutrients pass from the top of a plant to the roots, is different in individual species of plants. A plan for one weed won't work for another. So your written plan will have to include a plan for each type of noxious weed you have on your property. *********************************************************************** 4th THE RIGHT APPLICATION to use. You may be using chemical, bugs or goats on Leafy Spurge. Your plan needs to address which type of application you plan to use. *********************************************************************** 5th TIMING If you're a farmer you don't spray your corn field for cockleburs after it has tasseled do you? You'd be a little late, and would damage your corn crop. If your a contractor you don't paint the outside of a house in the winter time or during a rainy spell. There is a right time and a wrong time for applications. In the following pages I will cover these 5 areas of management a little closer and help you formulate an effective plan for each each individual noxious weed species that I am familiar with. Canadian Thistle, Leafy Spurge, Musk, Bull and Plume less thistle, Absinth Wormwood and Mullien. I will also give your locations where you can obtain more information on these and other weeds. ********************************************************************** Start by doing what's necessary, then what's possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible. Francis of Assisi ********************************************************************** Kenny Konechne Besides having a high interest in helping other people in their battle against noxious weeds, I also enjoy writing short stories in rhyme.
