My chosen application for Musk thistle in range land is
1 qt per acre Grazeon next or 1 pt. Duracor applied in early May to mid June
My experience tells me if Canadian Thistle are also present a fall follow up is still needed,
especially with Grazeon phd or Grazeon next.
If some areas have gotten away from you, I strongly urge you to think
well of your neighbors
and mow them down so they do not spread to their property and
then spray in the fall using Milestone. 6-7 oz plus surfactant
If you mow them, go back within 2 weeks and spray the regrowth. Duracor at the
rate of 1pt per acre is good for broadcast spraying.
With a hand gun 2,4-D ester is cheaper.
SPRAYING ALFALFA
If it is roundup ready and a grass mixture you cannot use Roundup.
I use Maestro a generic Buctril at the rate of 1 pint per acre.
It does not kill the thistle plant.
It might look a little sick, it may still produce a seed head, but the seed is sterile.
Next year they are gone.
Check with your county extension service for their circular and other recommended chemicals and rates.
